The New York State Thruway Authority has been steadily building out EV charging as part of its broader Service Area Redesign and Redevelopment Project. As of this writing, more than 120 charging stations are in operation across Thruway commuter lots, service areas, and welcome centers — with Applegreen Electric installing four to twelve high-speed chargers at every redeveloped service area.

Types of Charging Available

Level 2 — Free

Located at nine Commuter Park and Ride lots off the mainline system. Takes approximately 4 hours for a full charge.

Level 3 — Fast Charge

Supplies 50–100kW of power. Fast-charge-capable EVs can charge in approximately 30 minutes.

Applegreen Electric — Universal

Up to 350kW of power. Supports all EVs, including Tesla, at every redeveloped service area.

Westchester connection: the Ardsley service area (I-87 NB, between Exit 6A & Exit 7) has 8 Applegreen charging stations — the closest major Thruway fast-charging hub for Westchester County drivers heading north.
